" The GVDSS does not recommend or support various therapies, therapists, doctors, practitioners, etc. The only Board-approved partnership is with the Victoria Conservatory of Music for the Music therapy program. The GVDSS' mission is to be a support system for one another. It is left to individuals and families to determine the best services, therapies, doctors, and therapists for their particular needs and that fit their personal philosophies.

Music Therapy 2018/2019

Dear GVDSS Families,

Our Music Therapy program has been on hiatus for several years and we would like to support the program once again. We have contacted the Victoria Conservatory of Music and they have set aside some time periods for use by our membership. The program runs from September to June and participating families will be expected to attend for the full program.  They have set aside the following times

Tuesdays 9:30-10 AM (9 and under)

Tuesdays 3:45-4:15 PM (9 and under)

Tuesdays 5:45-6:30 PM (10 and older)

Fridays 5:15-6:00 PM (10 and older)

The cost of the full program is $1539 for the 9 and under group and $2308.50 for the 10 and older group, the cost of each session being spilt evenly among the participants.  Ideally we would like a minimum of 4 students in each group, so the cost per person would be ~ $400 (9 and under) and ~ $600 (10 and older). GVDSS is setting aside funds for up to 8 families to participate in the program for the 2018-19 session and depending on ages and availability we are looking to put together two groups of four.

We understand that not everyone who is interested in participating is able to support the above session times. If you are interested but cannot attend any of the times above, let us know. We will collect those names and then send out an email to that group with contact information for the program coordinator at VCM. Those individuals may collaborate amongst themselves and see if an alternate time can be arranged for a group session. At this time, VCM is not registering individuals.

Funding - the following rules will apply for those participating in the program

1. GVDSS Members in good standing may apply

2. GVDSS will fund up to 50% of the per person cost for the session, up to a maximum of $200 per family (9 and under) and a maximum of $300 per family (10 and older). If the session has four or more participants, the member will only pay half the cost of the session.

3. Funding will be via bursary. Participants will be responsible for payment of their share of the session in advance and GVDSS will pay out a bursary that can be requested starting in December.

4. We will accept (via email to info@gvdss.org) requests to participate in the program up to Friday, 20 April 2018 and will announce the group sessions and participants no later than Friday, 27 April.  Those participating will need to confirm their registration with VCM by 11 May.
